Insider MX Training Report
This month I want to talk about one of my younger riders, Tanner Amarillas from Gilbert,AZ. Tanner is nine yrs old and rides the 65 open,65 6-9 stock and mod. Tanner just recently raced at the AM OPEN in Buckeye,Az finishing with two 2nd overalls in the stock and mod classes, and a 6th overall in the 65 open.
Tanners training schedule:
MONDAY – Turn track for at least two hrs. Working the turn track allows me to make adjustments to Tanner‚s body position and work a lot on his technique. When working the turn track I really try to concentrate on entry and exit speed as well as breaking.(Break late, Exit early)
TUE-THUR – These three days are spent at the track working on every aspect of riding . Cornering,Braking,Starts,Technique and Speed.
Riding alone doesn‚t get you at the level Tanner is for his age. I like to incorporate some type of cardio off the bike as well. With Tanner being so young, weights are not an option. I believe with kids Tanner‚s age, you can accomplish a lot with their own body weight. Pushups, pull ups, sit ups etc. Road biking is very good as well. So, these are just a few things you can work on with your kids at home for them to become a well rounded rider. Remember always make it fun for them !!
